About
Hey. I'm Brian. You might know me as "the Skastodon guy" or maybe "the Cult of the Drive-in creator." I could also be "that weirdo from Bluesky" or "the horrorpunk dude." Guilty.
I do a lot of stuff, because I like making things. It's not just the end result that I enjoy, but the process. It's fulfilling to see all of the pieces of a project start fitting together. And sometimes, other people like the things I've made. That's always a nice feeling.
Stuff I've made
- Skastodon - When a certain microblogging site got bought by a billionaire, I thought to myself "someone should make an alternative for the ska friends." And then it dawned on me that last time I checked, I was "someone." So with very little knowledge of Mastodon, I bought a domain name and a hosting plan, and I designed an adorable little skanking pachyderm with pixel art.
- Cult of the Drive-in - Heavily inspired by Ken Lowery's VOID 1680 AM, this is a solo journaling game all about curating movies for a single-screen drive-in theater. It's a love letter to cult films and outdoor cinema. I created it mostly at night, then did the layout in Affinity Publisher using a lot of stock photos and my own pictures.
- /r/horrorpunk/ - Quite a few years ago I was on reddit thinking "Why isn't there a subreddit for horrorpunk?" Much like Skastodon, I decided to manifest that into reality myself.
- Tales from Channel 13 - This is a work-in-progress follow-up to Cult of the Drive-in, and it's all about being a horror host. While Cult of the Drive-in was about curating multiple films, this game will require you to "lock in" on just a single movie. Don't you dare reveal the secret twist ending to your friends.
- My various projects on Itch - My stuff on Itch is a hodgepodge of jam submissions, weird impulsive stuff I've created, and other goofiness.
If you're still reading this, here's a call to action: You should make stuff, too. Draw something, write something, make a game, record a song, or do whatever you can. If you don't know how, then learn and BS your way through it. And if you already do make stuff, keep doing that. Maybe find someone to help or encourage.
